Hand in Hand: Helping the Foster Care System

Making others feel loved and cared for is invaluable.

On any given day there are more than 10,000 children in the Washington State Foster Care System. These children are unexpectedly uprooted from their homes. They often feel alone and afraid, with little more than a garbage bag for their belongings and the clothes on their back.

Our Seattle office partners with Hand in Hand, a local non-profit organization that works to provide a safe environment where children can stay during this difficult transition. Hand in Hand works to address the immediate and long-term needs of children and families in a time of deep crisis and uncertainty. We support Hand in Hand’s efforts by providing basic necessities like warm clothes, new shoes, basic hygiene items, baby bottles, formula, diapers, and toys. In addition, we devote time for volunteer and fundraising efforts.

Over the past two years in we partnered with the Make a Change Foundation and other corporate sponsors to raise over $22,000 in cash donations. These went towards purchasing “want” items and a “need” items for over 200 children. An additional portion of the money helped fund Hand in Hand’s operation costs (which total about one million dollars per year). Our team also donated 150 new pairs of shoes to children heading back to school last September. Hand in Hand’s work in the community inspires us, and it is for this reason we love partnering with them.
